What’s it like to work with you?

I focus on making each session relaxed and enjoyable while guiding you through poses that work best for you. A comment I often receive is, "That was actually kind of fun!", and I consider that a sign that the session went well.

For most of my clients, this is their first time taking professional photos, and almost all of the graduates you see in my portfolio were first-timers too. Having photographed graduates for more than five years, I'm used to working with people who may not feel comfortable in front of the camera, and I'll guide you through everything. I notice the small details that can distract in photos (like a hair strand out of place or an uneven shirt collar), so that you won't have to worry about them.

I genuinely enjoy the energy of these sessions and the opportunity to celebrate this accomplishment with you. My goal is to make the process enjoyable while delivering photos that you'll be happy to look at for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • To book a session, please fill out the contact form on my website or send me a direct message on Instagram @nirellephoto.

Once we’ve agreed on a date/time, I’ll ask you to send a signed contract along with a 50% nonrefundable deposit to book the session.

  • It’s best to book as early as possible. I suggest scheduling your grad photos in the early spring, during spring break, or a few days after graduation to avoid having crowds in the background. Dead week (for UC Berkeley students) and the week of graduation can get especially crowded.

  • I recommend scheduling at least one hour before sunset to get the most flattering light during golden hour.

  • For solo graduation photos:

    • 30-minutes
This session length is the best for students who would like a classic set of graduation photos (often for parents) without a long shoot. This option focuses on 1~2 locations while still maintaining the same level of care and editing. Limited poses compared to longer sessions.

    • 60-minutes (Recommended)
I find that 60 minute allows enough time to take a variety of photos at a few campus locations and create a well-rounded gallery.

    • 90-minutes
I recommend a 90-minute sessions for students who would like to invite friends or family, plan to change outfits, would like additional locations, or would like more time for posing guidance.

For students taking photos in groups:

    • 60-minutes
This option is available for students who prefer a more streamlined session and don’t need extensive individual coverage.

    • 90-minutes (Recommended)
I recommend scheduling at least 90 minutes for most group sessions. I find that this session length allows enough time to capture both group photos and a variety of individual portraits of each graduate.

  • Yes, you are more than welcome to bring friends and family to your session. I only charge per additional graduating student. If you’d like to take several group or family photos, I recommend adding at least 30 minutes to allow enough time for individual photos as well.

  • I recommend bringing all of your graduation regalia (cap, gown, and stole). You are also welcome to bring celebratory props such as flowers, balloons, or compostable confetti.

  • I’m based in the Bay Area and primarily photograph graduates at UC Berkeley and schools in San Francisco. I’m happy to travel to other locations; just let me know your school, and we can discuss availability and any applicable travel fees.
